On Wednesday, November 2nd 2016, a ceremony to welcome the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Flag Tour to Fukushima took place by the prefectural offices.
Accompanying Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, Olympics Minister Tamayo Marukawa, and Governor Masao Uchibori in attending the ceremony as Flag Tour Ambassadors were: Mikako Kotani, Seoul Olympics synchronized swimming bronze medalist; Kazushige Kuboki (Born in Furudono, Fukushima), who participated in the track cycling omnium event at the Rio Olympics; Mikiko Hagiwara (Born in Fukushima city), who represented Japan in women’s basketball at the Atlanta Olympics; Megumi Mashiko, who has represented Japan in wheelchair basketball in the Paralympics four times, and bronze medalist at Sydney Paralympics.
Once Governor Koike and Flag Tour Ambassador Kotani had officially handed over the Olympic and Paralympic flags, a photo session was held for the delegates and children of Fukushima attending the ceremony.
The Olympic and Paralympic Flags will remain on display on the 2nd floor of the west wing of the prefectural offices until Friday, November 11th, after which they will be sent on a tour of the Prefecture.
